With recognition, Wilton Rancheria looks to future
Members and leaders of the newly restored Wilton Miwok Rancheria of California met on June 13 to discuss their future.

The tribe's main goal is self-sufficiency. But details of economic development plans aren't being discussed by tribal leaders for now.

"We would like to be self-sufficient, but it is up to tribal members as to what type of economical development they would like to pursue," co-chair Mary Tarango told The Elk Grove Citizen.

Another issue is bringing the tribe closer together and resolving old disputes. The Wilton Rancheria has been split into two factions, the Me-Wuk Indian Community of the Wilton Rancheria and Wilton Miwok Rancheria, that are now recognized as one group.
