A federal jury cleared a police officer in Farmington, New Mexico, for the fatal shooting of a Navajo Nation man.

The family of Clint John, 21, sued officer Shawn Scott and the city of Farmington. They said Scott used excessive force when he shot and killed John in June 2006.

Witnesses testified that they saw John approach Scott in an threatening manner. "It's a tragedy for the (John) family, and I feel for them, but the jury did the right thing," Scott told The Farmington Daily Times after the verdict.
