Prior land-into-trust acquisitions appear safe
Prior land-into-trust applications appear to be safe after the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar, Indian law practitioners said.

The Quiet Title Act protects the U.S. government from lawsuits over completed acquisitions, attorneys noted. The law was cited as recently as September 2008 in a case involving the Wyandotte Nation.

The Supreme Court decision limits the land-into-trust process to tribes that were "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934. Tribes are asking Congress to amend the Indian Reorganization Act to ensure all tribes can benefit.
