Kumeyaay Nation wants ancestor returned
Tribes from the Kumeyaay Nation of California want to rebury the remains of an ancestor but they say the University of California San Diego is being insensitive to their culture.

The 10,000-year-old remains were discovered more than 30 years ago. The tribes claim the bones but the UCSD says they can't be culturally linked to present-day Kumeyaay people.

“The Kumeyaay want their ancestors back, and they want to bury them appropriately,” Michele Fahley, an attorney for the Kumeyaay Cultural Repatriation Committee, told The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The dispute is set to go before the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Review Committee in May.
