More candidates seek Crow chairman's post

At least eight people have filed to run for chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana following the death of Carl Venne, the tribe's late leader.

The list so far: interim chairman Cedric Black Eagle, Wallace Red Star, Adrian Bird Sr., Vianna Stewart, Edwina Little Light, Leroy Not Afraid, Lawrence Pretty Weasel and Burton Pretty On Top. Most are expected to participate in a candidates' forum at Little Big Horn College on Friday.

Pretty On Top, the latest to file, said he wants to restore authority to the tribal membership. He said the constitution the tribe adopted in 2001 cuts members of important decisions.

The primary will be held March 28 and the general election is scheduled for April 18.
