Augustine Band benefits from solar energy system
The Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians is the first tribe in California to win federal approval for a solar energy system.

The tribe is running a 1.1-megawatt photovoltaic renewable energy system on its reservation. The $7 million system will generate enough power to supply tribal homes and the tribal casino.

“This is not only a great investment, but will create a better environment for everyone,” said Chairwoman Mary Ann Green, The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported.

The tribe built the system with the help of a grant from the Department of Energy and a rebate from the local water district.
