Mashpee Wampanoag chair looks at tribe's past
Cedric Cromwell, the new chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts, said he will re-examine decisions made by his predecessors.

One is a deal made with the town of Mashpee over the tribe's land-into-trust application. Cromwell said the tribe gave up too much in exchange for the town's support of the acquisition of a mere 140 acres.

"We own a deed to 16,000 acres, 140 is a little shy," Cromwell told The Cape Cod Times.

The new chairman also wants to look at a deal with the tribe's casino investors, an agreement he has never seen in person despite serving on the tribal council. "It's important to sit down with investors and understand what that is and manage it," he said.

Cromwell was elected on Sunday.
