Members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts elected a new slate of leaders on Sunday.

Cedric Cromwell won the race for chairman. He replaces Shawn Hendricks, who decided not to seek re-election after being linked to a federal investigation that netted a guilty plea for former chairman Glenn Marshall Jr.

“We are getting our tribe back,” said Cromwell, The Cape Cod Times reported. “We’ve got our tribe back.”

Voters also elected Aaron Tobey as vice chair, ousted two incumbents for the secretary and treasurer posts and filled an open council seat. All will serve four-year terms.

In related news, a tribal judge said four members who were shunned for criticizing Marshall should be allowed to vote in the election.
