Nine-year-old girl dies in fire on Manitoba reserve
The Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation in Manitoba is mourning the death of a nine-year-old girl, whose overcrowded home was destroyed by a fire on Monday night.

Chief Russell Beaulieu said 15 people lived in the old wood-frame home. He said the structure was destroyed quickly.

"The head of the household was actually the head of the fire department, but an old wooden building like that, it didn't take more than 15 minutes for it to be engulfed in flames," Beaulieu told CBC News.

The head of the household is being treated for injuries, apparently sustained while trying to rescue people from the fire.
