Conference focuses on family violence and trauma
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is hosting its first conference on family violence and child trauma.

Charlene Jones, a tribal council member, said violence is common in Indian Country. She said high rates of alcoholism and poverty contribute to the problem.

”The circle,” Jones told The New London Day, “never gets broken. … What we need is intervention - and education. Families can't fix what they don't understand.”

“Healing the Generations: The First Annual Family Violence and Child Trauma Conference” takes place Thursday and Friday at the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
