South Dakota weighs tribal tax refund legislation
The state of South Dakota is asking lawmakers to clarify how much money can be refunded to companies that do business on reservations.

The state has entered into tax agreements with several tribes. The deals split sales, tobacco and contractor-excise tax revenues between the state and the tribes.

Under current law, the state Department of Revenue and Regulation says companies can claim refunds in amounts larger than the state's share. An amendment would restrict the amount of such refunds.

The bill is due to be passed by the Senate today if no one objects.
