Pala Band seeks to reclaim ancestral homeland
The Pala Band of Mission Indians hopes to reclaim its ancestral homeland in southern California.

The tribe lived at a village called Cupa until 1903, when tribal members were forced to leave at gunpoint. They walked 39 miles to their current reservation.

But the tribe has always maintained a connection to the site, which is now home to a financially troubled resort. The tribe has bid around $20 million to reclaim its home.
