U.S. Attorney Troy Eid of Colorado will resign his post on January 19 to return to private practice and run for state attorney general.

Eid is going back to Greenberg Traurig, the firm that was involved in the Jack Abramoff scandal. He will run for state office in 2010.

As U.S. Attorney, Eid has led efforts to improve law enforcement on the two Ute reservations in the state. He is one of the few federal officials to support the restoration of tribal jurisdiction over non-Indians.

He also helped tribes outside of Colorado with cross-deputization programs and he was an active member of the Native American Issues Subcommittee at the Department of Justice.
