Surplus Air Force land in trust for Oneida Nation
The Oneida Nation of New York has acquired 18 acres of surplus U.S. Air Force property.

The land, which was already off the local tax rolls, was declared surplus in 1999. It was transferred to the Interior Department to be held in trust for the tribe.

The tribe welcomed the move, saying it would help the pending acquisition of more than 13,000 acres. Local officials and the state government are fighting the tribe's land-into-trust applications.
