Thousands drawn to Cabazon Band's powwow
The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians of California reported record attendance at its annual Indio Powwow.

The tribe broke last year's attendance rate in just two days. Upwards of 11,000 people passed through the doors at the Special Events Center of the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported.

Despite the large crowd, some vendors said their sales were down due to the economy and a lack of advertising. One vendor noted there were at least four other powwows taking place over the weekend.

A reported 550 dancers and drum groups, representing 100 tribes in the U.S. and Canada, took part in the event.
