Oneida Nation donated $4600 to Sen. Obama
The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin donated $4,600 to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois) but was unable to donate to Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona).

The tribe has supported candidates of both parties. This year, however, McCain is refusing all donations from tribes.

“Our general practice is that we respond to requests from both candidates,” Bobbi Webster, the tribe’s communications director, told The Green Bay Press-Gazette. “We have contributed to McCain in the past. The tribe maintains the opinion that we are encouraging people to become more engaged in the election, that they should educate themselves on the issues.”

Though McCain accepted tribal donations in the past, he changed his mind after the Jack Abramoff scandal. He has said tribes can make better use of their money than donating to his campaign.
