Samish Nation seeks trust status for land
The Samish Nation is seeking to have 14 acres in Anacortes, Washington, placed in trust.

The tribe doesn't have plans for the site but will consider all options -- including a smoke shop and a casino. But tribal leaders aren't expecting development any time soon.

"Fee to trust is a long, arduous process," Chairman Tom Wooten told The Skagit Valley Herald.

It took the tribe six years for another land-into-trust application to win approval at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
