Washington tribal rally supports Democrats
Members of several Washington tribes attended a rally on Sunday to support Sen. Barack Obama and other Democratic candidates.

The Puyallup, Tulalip, Hoh, Colville and Nisqually tribes were represented at the rally, The Tacoma Weekly reported. It's one of several being hosted by the Puyallup Tribe, whose leaders have been encouraging tribal members to vote.

“Years ago, our people wouldn’t vote,” said Puyallup council member Nancy Shippentower-Games, the Weekly reported. “I notice more and more Native Americans are voting, and that’s a good thing…because these elections affect us.”

Rep. Norm Dicks (D) attended the rally and urged tribal members to vote for Gov. Chris Gregoire (D) and Obama.
