OSHA proposes $54K fine for Moapa Paiute Tribe
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing a $54,000 fine for a travel plaza owned by the Moapa Paiute Tribe of Nevada.

OSHA says the travel plaza, which is located on trust land, violated six safety rules. A fine of $2,100 was imposed in July but since the tribe failed to respond, a bigger fine was proposed.

"Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza's refusal to address these serious violations continues to put the safety and health of its employees at risk," an OSHA official said in a statement, The Las Vegas Sun reported. "OSHA will take action when it sees a disregard for the safety of employees."

Some tribes have questioned whether OSHA has jurisdiction over their businesses.
