First Nations leaders concerned about voter IDs
Native leaders in Canada say a voter identification requirement will limit turnout at the polls next month.

All voters must show an ID with proof of a physical address. Native leaders say not all First Nations people can meet the requirement.

"If they don't feel comfortable going to the polling station with what's in their pocket, they're not going to go," Union of Ontario Indians Grand Council Chief John Beaucage told CBC News.

Elections Canada says it is working hard to inform Native people of their right to vote. Those without IDs can get their First Nation to vouch for them, a spokesperson said.

More than 1 million Canadians in rural areas lack address with a street name and number, according to CBC News.
