Tribal, state and federal officials will celebrate a milestone in the $450 million Mni Wiconi water project on Wednesday.

The ceremony marks the completion of a pipeline that delivers water from the Missouri River to the Pine Ridge Reservation. "It's a very historic moment for the Oglala Sioux Tribe," Mike Watson, the head engineer for the Oglala Sioux Tribe told the Associated Press.

Congress authorized the project in 1988. Water is already being delivered to the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation and the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. Mni Wiconi also serves rural off-reservation communities.
