BIA recognizes interim chief of Seneca-Cayuga Tribe

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has recognized LeRoy Howard as interim chief of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma.

Howard and a new slate of leaders were elected in June. But former chief Paul Spicer disputed the results and held onto power.

The BIA now says Howard is in control of the tribe until the dispute is resolved internally. Second Chief Katie Birdsong believes the tribe has already done that. "It's over," she told The Tulsa World.
