Utah officials target low Indian graduation rate
Officials in Utah met on Wednesday to discuss the low graduation rate of Indian students.

Of the 7,716 Indian students in public schools, only 75 percent graduated in 2007. That's lower than the statewide average of 88 percent.

Steven Trubow of Olympic Behavior Labs said more emphasis should be placed on culture. He cited the recent National Indian Education Study, in which only 29 percent of American Indian and Alaska Native students said they knew "a lot" about their heritage.

Along with Microsoft and The National Center for Dropout Prevention, Olympic Behavior Labs has developed the Dropout Early Warning System to identify and help students who are at risk of leaving school before they graduate.
