Lawsuit over 'Chief Illiniwek' logo dismissed
A federal judge dismissed a trademark lawsuit over the "Chief Illiniwek" logo of the University of Illinois.

Jack Davis designed the Indian head logo. He said the university agreed to grant him ownership if the controversial mascot was ever dropped.

The university's board of trustees has since moved to eliminate the chief but disputed the lawsuit. A judge agreed there was no jurisdiction over the contract and that the university is protected by state sovereign immunity.
