Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois) won the Democratic primary in North Carolina on Tuesday while
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York) won the vote in Indiana.
Obama won 56 percent of the vote in North Carolina, compared to 42 percent for Clinton. In Indiana, Clinton had 51 percent to Obama's 49 percent.
According to The Washington Post, Obama easily won North Carolina despite some "organizational issues." He was slow to respond to the federal recognition of the
Lumbee Tribe, the paper said.
Clinton's campaign had already sent former President Bill Clinton and their daughter Chelsea Clinton to show their support for the tribe by the time Obama sent out a press release on Monday in favor of recognition. The Post said tribal leaders "had been waiting for two weeks" for Obama's position.
