Alaska Native corporation names new president

Doyon Ltd., an Alaska Native regional corporation, named Norm Phillips as its new president and chief operating officer.

Phillips, who has worked for the corporation in the past, replaces Orie Williams, who was forced out of office by shareholders last year. During Williams' tenure, Doyon saw record profit and revenue.

Doyon currently faces scrutiny over a controversial land swap with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Some tribes oppose the deal because it would allow oil drilling on land within the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge.
