Oklahoma symposium focuses on Indian science

Northeastern State University in Oklahoma kicked off its 36th Symposium on the American Indian on Wednesday.

This year's theme is “the Sun, the Moon, the Stars: RHYTHMS OF LIFE.” Speakers included Chickasaw astronaut John Herrington and Kiowa writer N. Scott Momaday

Herrington, the first Native American in space, reflected on his Space Shuttle Endeavour experience. “You look out at space and you say ‘that’s OK, then you go back to work,” Herrington said, The Muskogee Phoenix reported.

The conference continues today with a powwow. It ends on Saturday.
