Mother of injured toddler calls for end to violence

The mother of a 23-month-old toddler who was injured in a drive-by shooting on an Alberta reserve called for an end to gang and drug violence.

Candace Saddleback said the Samson Cree Nation and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police aren't doing enough to stem the violence. Her daughter, Asia, was shot after 12 incidents of gun violence over a three-week period on the reserve.

"I've been living there all my life and I'm so sorry that it took my daughter … for people to understand that its a bad crisis in Hobbema," Saddleback said at a news conference, CBC News reported.

An 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old male have been charged in connection with the shooting. The 18-year-old is reportedly linked to one of the 13 gangs operating in the area.
