Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe receives $1M grant

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has received a $1 million grant from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota.

The tribe will use the money to finish an elderly village and nursing home in Eagle Butte and to fund a transit project. The elder village enables tribal members to stay closer to home due to limit nursing home space on the reservation.

The Shakopee Tribe previously loaned $3 million and awarded a $1 million grant for the effort.
