South Dakota delegation supports Indian apology

All three members of South Dakota's Congressional delegation support a measure to apologize to Native people for their treatment by the United States.
Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota), Sen. John Thune (R-South Dakota) and Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-South Dakota) all said it was important to acknowledge the effects of negative federal policies on Indian Country. Johnson said the government needs to live up to its treaty and trust responsibilities.
The Senate included the apology as part of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.
Supporters in the House hope to do the same.
