Report examines health status of urban Indians

The Urban Indian Health Institute is releasing a report today that examines the health status of urban Indians across the country.

The study examines five years of data from the federal government. It found that urban Indians reported higher rates of binge drinking, diabetes, obesity and smoking.

More than half of the American Indian and Alaska Native population lives in urban areas. The Bush administration has tried to cut funding for urban Indian health programs for three years in a row.
