Cayuga Nation expects land-into-trust approval

The Cayuga Nation of New York expects approval of its land-into-trust application, a lawyer for the tribe said.

The tribe wants about 125 acres placed in trust. That's a far smaller amount than the 13,000 acres that the Bureau of Indian Affairs is recommending for the Oneida Nation, also of New York.

The Cayugas have purchased other parcels within its ancestral reservation. But its land claim was dismissed by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.
