Native group home for children is shut down

The government of Saskatchewan has shut down a children's group home run by the Keeseekoose First Nation.

The Wi Ci Ti Zon Group Home was closed after reports of a fire and a confrontation between residents and staff. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is investigating.

Three Native girls aged 12 to 17 were living in the home. They have been placed elsewhere, said Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer.

In 2006, the government shut down a Native teen safe house in Regina after safety and management problems were uncovered.
