Code Talker park envisioned on Rosebud Reservation

Two South Dakota State University professors are seeking to raise $2 million for a Code Talkers Veterans Memorial Park Complex on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation.

Russ Stubbles, a professor of park management, and Paul Fokken, an assistant professor of recreation administration, plan to use $1 million to create the park. It would feature a baseball diamond, soccer field and other facilities

The other $1 million would be used for other projects on the reservation. It will also fund a summer internship program for tribal youth.

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is backing the effort. The tribe can set aside land for the park and is interested in investing gaming funds in the project.
