Washington House passes tribal policing bill

The Washington House voted 58-37 on Monday to approve a bill that gives tribal police officers the power to enforce state criminal and traffic laws.

Tribes and the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs support the bill. It would not subject non-Indians to tribal court authority.

The bill goes to the Senate for consideration.
