South Dakota panel delays tribal contribution bill

The South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee delayed a bill that would allow tribes to contribute to state politicians.

Currently, tribes -- along with state, local and federal governments -- are barred from making donations. SB100 would repeal the phrase "Indian tribe" from a list of prohibited contributors.

But Sen. Theresa Two Bulls, a Democrat who is sponsoring the bill, said it was vague. She said it wasn't clear whether the prohibition would apply to all tribal entities, not just the tribal government.
