Lawmaker drops bill for Gabrielino Tribe

A California state lawmaker has withdrawn her support for a bill that would create a reservation for the Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe.

Sen. Jenny Oropeza, a Democrat, introduced the bill just last week. But after learning that tribal leaders hoped to use the reservation in the future for a casino, she withdrew her name.

The tribe is recognized by the state and has petitioned for federal recognition. Rival factions claim control of the tribe.
