Arizona tribes support eagle preservation lawsuit
Friday, February 1, 2008

Three Arizona tribes filed a friend of the court brief in a case that seeks to put desert-nesting bald eagle back on the list of endangered species.

The San Carlos Apache Tribe, the Yavapai-Apache Nation and the Tonto Apache Tribe said they weren't consulted or notified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Last May, the tribes were among 13 that walked out a meeting with federal officials and said their and spiritual views weren't taken into account.

The lawsuit was filed by the Center for Biological Diversity and the Maricopa Audubon Society. Judge Mary Murguia in Phoenix is holding a hearing at 3pm on Tuesday.
