Lummi Nation council candidates debate

Members of the Lummi Nation of Washington attended a debate of council candidates on Wednesday night.

Five positions on the 11-member council are up for grabs. The election is February 4.

Topics of the debate included per capita payments, economic development, employment and education. A number of candidates said they did not support per capitas at this time.

“Our people need to go to work,” candidate Gordan Adams said, The Bellingham Herald reported. “In lieu of per capita, we should give them a job.”
