Osage artist still working on huge monument

Shan Gray, a member of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, says work on a 21-story Indian monument continues, despite seemingly slow progress on the massive project.

Gray needs $36 million to create the "The American." The 207-foot-tall monument of a warrior and a bald eagle will be located on 114 acres outside of Tulsa.

"We've made some huge progress; unfortunately, it is an ongoing process," Gray told The Tulsa World.

Gray said he hopes to make an announcement on the project within the next few months. Once financing is complete, it will take 42 months to build the monument.
