NorthWest Indian News going strong after five years

North West Indian News is going strong, five years after being launched on the Tulalip Reservation in Washington.

The television broadcast network airs stories about tribal communities in the Pacific Northwest. Its programs are shown as far away as New Zealand.

“A lot of times, the only understanding non- Indians have of Native Americans is Western movies and stereotypes,” Mel Sheldon, chairman of the Tulalip Tribes board of directors, told The Bellingham Herald. “We want to share our culture and show that we’re just as much human beings as the next person.”

For network has an all-Native staff of 15 reporters. Primary funding comes from the Tulalip Tribes.
