"A day of honor is now a permanent addition to the Navajo Nation's calendar. It's a day when Navajos and all Americans can honor World War II's code talkers for their bravery and service to their country.

Code Talkers Day will be established for the first time on Aug. 14.

The Navajo Code Talkers were made famous by the way they helped the United States win the war. They spoke in Navajo and used their language to transmit military messages about the enemy's tactics.

More than 400 code talkers have been credited with aiding in America's cause from 1942-1945. It has been said that if it hadn't been for the code talkers fast speed, the Marines may have never taken Iwo Jima.

With such as complex language that, at the time, was not understood by many whites, it was a well-planned idea that formed the code talkers together and implemented their code.

This day should not be seen as only a tribal holiday, but as a national holiday as well."
