Mormon Church changes view on indigenous people

The Mormon Church has made a slight change to its teachings about indigenous people in the Americans after DNA tests showed they do not descend from Hebrews.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has long said that Native Americans descend from a tribe of Hebrews e from Israel. The church has used the claim to convert indigenous people.

But the new introduction to the Book of Mormon indicates that not all Native Americans descend from Hebrews. Church leaders say it is possible that Hebrews mixed with existing indigenous groups to create modern-day Native Americans.
