"There's welcome news for Santa Fe's most popular summer event, the annual Southwestern Association for Indian Arts Indian Market. The SWAIA board announced earlier this week that Bruce Bernstein has agreed to stay on as executive director. Bernstein, who had been acting in a consultant role, helped organize last summer's successful market. His appointment holds great promise. For one thing, Bernstein is no stranger to New Mexico or Indian Market. With 25 years as a board member, judge and volunteer at market, he doesn't have the learning curve to navigate — whether about Santa Fe, Indian Market or Native art — that recent executives have had to overcome. He is well-respected in our museum world as well, working previously at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian and at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology in Albuquerque."
