Court revives challenge to Nisga'a Nation treaty

The British Columbia Court of Appeal has revived a challenges to the Nisga'a Nation's treaty.

The Nisga'a Nation signed a treaty in 2000 to create its own autonomous government. But dissident members said the agreement violates the Canadian constitution and the traditional form of Nisga'a government.

The B.C. Supreme Court threw out the case, saying the dissidents didn't provide enough information in a timely fashion. But the court of appeal said the challenge was dismissed prematurely.
