Saginaw Chippewa Tribe hires new police captain

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan has hired a new police captain, The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun reports.

David Crockett, a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, started work on Monday. He replaces Capt. Joe Kequom, who recently retired.

Crockett, 39, has worked for the tribe before. He started out his law enforcement career on the reservation back when he was a student at Central Michigan University.

The tribe hopes to increase community policing and police involvement in local schools now that Crockett is on board.
