Oglala Sioux council member arrested for drugs

A council member for the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota was arrested in New Mexico on drug charges.

Don Garnier, 38, was a passenger in a car driven by Anthony Leo Vocu, 42, another tribal member, when it was stopped at a routine police checkpoint. More than 20 pounds of marijuana were found in the car.

Both men were taken into custody and were released but no charges have been filed. The state appears to have handed jurisdiction to federal authorities.
