The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has imposed water restrictions on the reservation due to drought.
The tribe is the first community in Western North Carolina to impose restrictions, The Asheville Citizen-Times reported. Most of the state is under severe drought, the paper said.
The restrictions affect several hundred people and businesses on the reservation. Violations could result in fines or a cut in water service.
