Mexican gangs said to have infiltrated tribe

Authorities in southern California say Mexican gangs have infiltrated the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

Last December, authorities busted a major methamphetamine drug run by the Mexican Mafia. Dozens of people were arrested and four homes on the reservation were raided as part of the undercover sting.

At least four of the defendants in the case are tribal members. Authorities accuse the tribal members of buying vehicles, helping gang members and financing gang activities.

One court document alleges that gangs have targeted tribal members for their per capita payments. Each tribal member receives $100,000 a month, according to court documents.
