Residential school students warned of scams

Now that a billion-dollar settlement has been accepted, former students of Native residential schools are being urged to keep a lookout for scams.
Most former students won't be receiving payments for several months. But scams have already surfaced, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police says.
Each student will receive a minimum payment is $10,000, plus $3,000 for each year in a residential school. Those who suffered physical or sexual abuse can get up to $250,000 and up to another $250,000 in lost income.
